영원한 말씀

마태복음 15장32절-38절

예수께서 제자들을 불러 이르시되 내가 무리를 불쌍히 여기노라 그들이 나와 함께 있은 지 이미 사흘이매 먹을 것이 없도다 길에서 기진할까 하여 굶겨 보내지 못하겠노라
제자들이 이르되 광야에 있어 우리가 어디서 이런 무리가 배부를 만큼 떡을 얻으리이까
예수께서 이르시되 너희에게 떡이 몇개나 있느냐 이르되 일곱 개와 작은 생선 두어 마리가 있나이다 하거늘
예수께서 무리에게 명하사 땅에 앉게 하시고
떡 일곱 개와 그 생선을 가지사 축사하시고 떼어 제자들에게 주시니 제자들이 무리에게 주매
다 배불리 먹고 남은 조각을 일곱 광주리에 차게 거두었으며
먹은 자는 여자와 어린이 외에 사천 명이었더라

이 말씀은 마태복음 14장15절-21절에 나오는 말씀과 유사하다. 차이는 앞선 말씀에서 남자의 수가 오천 명인데 비해 이 말씀에서는 사천 명이며, 예수께서 제자들에게 받은 것은 앞서는 떡 다섯 개와 물고기 두마리인데 비해 여기에서는 떡 일곱 개와 약간의 생선이었다. 또 그들이 배불리 먹고 남긴 것이 각각 열두 바구니와 일곱 바구니이다. 

예수님께서는 제자들을 통하여 그들이 가진 것을 파악하시고 그들을 바닥에 앉히셨다. 그리고는 그들이 먹을 것을 주셨다. 모두 배불리 먹도록 하였다. 먹고자 했던 사람들은 모두 먹었을 것이다. 예수님은 사람들에게 너무나 공평하시다.
예수님께서 떡을 떼는 과정은 써 있지 않다. 예수님은 하나님께 먼저 감사하시고, 떡을 계속 떼어 제자들에게 주시고 생선을 주셨다. 아마도 그 떡과 생선은 예수님이 축사하시는 순간 끝이 없는 재생산 능력을 가졌을 것이다.

예수님은 사천 명(여자와 어린이를 포함하면 더 많을) 앞에서, 오늘날에도 많은 사람들이 결코 일어날 수 없다고 부정하는 떡과 생선을 무한히 공급하는 기적을 행하셨다. 그 자리에 있었던 누구도 예수님을 평범한 사람으로 보지 않았을 것이다.

예수님은 절제하셨다. 그는 하나님께서 행하라고 하신 것만 이 땅에서 행하셨다. 그는 무엇이든 할 수 있었으나 하나님께서 이 땅에 베푸실 구원 만을 확실하게 주셨다.

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way." His disciples answered, "Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?" "How many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked. "Seven," they replied, "and a few small fish." He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was four thousand, besides women and children.
